HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
I am a 25-year public health professional working in human services programs such as Maternal and Child Health (including infant mortality). child and adult protective services, and disability and behavioral health. I have collaborated with political, community, and business and religious leaders in the implementation of successful health programs. I served on the Wake County Community Health Needs Assessment bringing that background to our community. My professional experience exactly aligns with the Public Health priorities of Wake County, which include:
Creating a comprehensive Wake County blueprint and health measures that align with benchmarks and goals for addressing the policy, coordination, and service gaps necessary to improve the health of our county.
Distinguishing and addressing the needs of the general population, vulnerable residents, and frequent users of health and social services with 1) broad, countywide initiative for all county residents 2) targeted efforts for vulnerable populations, and 3) intense “case management” for high risk individuals who are frequent users of health and social services.
Addressing the barriers that limit access to health care, which include a shortage of availability of various providers, a lack of providers accepting Medicare and Medicaid insurances, and a scarcity of bilingual providers.
Supporting and building capacity for the care and management of residents who experience behavioral health challenges especially in the areas of crisis services and substance abuse treatment.
